Getting Around & Other tips
Freycinet rewards those who arrive with their own wheels. Most guests fly into Hobart or Launceston and self-drive. Coles Bay sits roughly two and a half hours by road from Hobart, and Launceston is a little closer.
From the Tasman Highway, Coles Bay Road runs about 28 kilometres to the township, passing the white-sand chain of Friendly Beaches along the way. It’s worth stopping on the way in rather than saving it for later
Once you’re there, the park begins right at the edge of Coles Bay, where the visitor centre sells passes and has everything you need on trail conditions. A Parks Pass is essential. You can buy one for a single day or a multi-park pass covering Tasmania’s other national parks, which is the better value if the itinerary continues to Cradle Mountain or the Bay of Fires. With the pass sorted, you can drive into the park and reach the walking tracks to Wineglass Bay and a handful of shorter walks.
Until the next escape,
